Food Week - Least Favorite Foods

So far, we've only been talking about foods we think are delicious, so I thought it would be fun to talk about foods we'd rather avoid.

I'm not a fan of zucchini. Or beets. Or any fruit that comes in a can. I loathe Dr. Pepper (I'm counting drinks in the food category). Shepherd's Pie.

Megan (Commas and Clauses) - Broccoli! Yuck. My dog loves broccoli, so I suppose she's healthier than I am, and she has a better chance at warding off cancer, as my mother says.

Erin (Butter and Brass) - Black licorice, especially tykisk pebers, which genetically I think I'm supposed to like. Also, I made a pineapple upside down cake once that tasted like bubble gum and I haven't been able to repair the damage.

Dabito (Old Brand New) - Big chunks of scallions. I can only handle very tiny bits.

Sara (Matchbox Kitchen) - Bananas! I wish I liked them because they're a healthy and portable snack, but the smell, texture and flavor are all so unappetizing. I do love fried plantain though.

Jen (Honey Kennedy) - Wet bread. This includes pancakes... they have no integrity. They should learn to be more waffle-like.

Elise (Pennyweight) - I hate to say it, but it has to be tomatoes. Don't get me wrong, I love tomatoes in things - salsa, ketchup, pasta sauce, etc. but a tomato all by itself freaks me out

(I totally agree, Elise - Mallory)

Anabela (Fieldguided) - I am not a picky eater in the slightest, but I just can't get into beets! I eat them anyway because I guess they're good for me.

Sara (Brown Paper Bag) - Anything topped with horseradish. So, horseradish (even though it's technically a sauce).

Jena (Modish) - Not a fan of anything pickled or that once had eyeballs.

Allira (So on and so forth) - Some handmade chocolate I ate in Peru. I don't think it was even that it made me really sick and bedridden for 3 days, but now even just the thought of it makes me feel slightly queasy... I can thank my lucky stars that it didn't put me off chocolate in general! This 'sick-food-conditioning' has happened a few times in my life... fish and chips, cherry ripe bars... I couldn't eat either for years. Oh, but times have changed and lucky for me the condition has passed. We have a special relationship now. And we all live happily ever after. The End.

Hanna (banana meet-cute) - Mince pies, or really anything with minced meat in it. I have vivid memories from my primary school where the only thing you could buy from the canteen were mince pies and flavored milk. There always seemed to be some kind of mince-related incident going on during lunch times, with minced meat being flung round the playground, or someone sitting or standing in someone's pie.

Kate (For Me, For You) - Mushrooms! Oh god I hate them so. much. Which sucks because vegetarian food so often focuses on them.

Diana (Miss Moss) - There's a dish in South Africa called bobotie which I cannot abide.

Melanie (you are my fave) - Cheese puff balls. Peas.

Gemma Correll - Anything aniseed flavored. Bleurgh.

Liza (Length x Wit) - Pickles. Gross.

Maggie (Folkloric) - It's very un-trendy to say this, but I can't stand sushi. I have tried so many different kinds, and I love how artfully each piece is formed and arranged, but I just can't make myself like it.

Jen (hellojenuine) - Tomatoes & onions. Partially because they're always in things & I end up having to pick them out.

M. Fay (Amateur Couture) - Stinky cheeses (no matter how good they say it is).

Mariah (Size Too Small) - Lima beans.

Emily (Short Story Design) - Chinese take-out. At the annoyance of many a boyfriend-past, I just can't do it. Any of it.

Kate (Lovelorn Unicorn) - I'm on a mission to learn to like foods I've previously hated - so far I've conquered avocado, mushrooms and zucchini (all of which I now love), amongst others. At the moment I'm trying really hard to like beets, but it's not working.
